Seniors Preparing for Rainbow Years (SPRY)

A Good Idea

Description

The Seniors Preparing for Rainbow Years (SPRY) program provides services to older adults who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT). SPRY assists this population with the unique challenges they face as they age. Services include outreach, men's and women's peer support groups, professional counseling, case management, social and recreational activities, and health and wellness education. Most services are provided free of charge. The program also provides training, consultation and advocacy among senior care providers to better enable them to serve the needs of LGBT seniors.

Goal / Mission

The Seniors Preparing for Rainbow Years program was established to enhance the lives of LGBT persons age 60 and older.

Results / Accomplishments

SPRY serves LGBT seniors on an ongoing basis. Monthly socials include activities such as cards and games, movies, and a potluck. SPRY Montrose Diner Days provide a venue for games and socialization as well as lunch three times a week.
