Description

Habitat Kansas City ReStore was created as a fundraising arm for Habitat for Humanity Kansas City. Donations of unwanted but usable materials are diverted from landfills and sold to the public at deeply discounted prices. Sales from the ReStore support Habitat Kansas City by raising enough funds to cover all overhead costs and build homes in the urban core.

Goal / Mission

ReStore Kansas City was created to be an entrepreneurial, fundraising arm for Habitat for Humanity Kansas City through sales of donated new and used building materials, furniture and appliances. By salvaging useable materials from people who no longer need them, ReStore is saving space in landfills, giving the public affordable materials, and helping to further the mission of affordable housing in the Kansas City area.

Impact

Two stores raised more than $5 million and approximately 60,000,000 lbs. of material were diverted from going into the local landfill.

Results / Accomplishments

As of winter 2014, the two stores have raised more than $5 million through sales to support Habitat for Humanity Kansas City's mission of eliminating substandard housing in the Kansas City community, and they have diverted approximately 60,000,000 lbs. of material from the KC landfill.
