DUI Awareness for Teens

A Good Idea

Description

During the spring prom season, there is an increase in automobile accidents due to teen drinking. In order to prevent future accidents, the Hartford Hospital-based LIFE STAR Air Ambulance team makes presentations to local high school students regarding the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. Their presentations cover topics such as decision-making and alcohol abuse and some include mock crash drills. Presenters are highly trained critical care providers such as fire department and EMS staff.

Goal / Mission

The goal of the program is to decrease alcohol-related automobile accidents during the prom season by making alcohol-awareness presentations to high school students.

Results / Accomplishments

In 2010, over 1,000 high school students were educated by the Hartford Hospital and LIFE STAR Air Ambulance DUI Awareness Training. The program is highly regarded by school administrators. Each year, more schools make requests for the program.
